The kit is designed to provide the piston’s sliding surface, maintain the correct cylinder geometry, rebuild the cylinder during an engine overhaul, and ensure a proper seal using the included sealing elements. The kit includes a cylinder liner and a liner seal.

Generally manufactured up to 1990 / before the 1991 block modifications. To avoid errors, I recommend verifying at least one of the following: Engine Serial Number (ESN), CPL, Cummins QuickServe catalog, block casting number, engine production year, original cylinder liner dimensions, and the number stamped on the old cylinder liner. In particular, it is important to distinguish the early pre-1991 block from later versions.
It is mounted in the lower section/seal area of the cylinder liner, between the liner and the engine block. It is part of the cylinder liner sealing system. Its main function is to seal the cylinder liner against the engine block, prevent coolant from flowing into unintended areas, prevent contamination between coolant and engine oil, and maintain proper sealing of the cylinder liner during the engine’s thermal cycles.
