This is an articulated piston kit, used primarily on Cummins QSL9 / QSL 8.9 L engines with the HPCR CM850 system. The kit is mounted inside the cylinder bore and connected to the connecting rod via the pin. Its function is to convert the pressure generated by combustion into linear motion and then, through the connecting rod and crankshaft, into rotational motion. The piston rings ensure that combustion gases are contained, control oil on the cylinder walls, and aid in heat transfer.
Also used in Cummins ISC, QSC, ISL, QSL 8.9 L, and QSL 9 engines.
It should not be automatically considered interchangeable with all QSL9 pistons. There are different configurations; always verify at least one of the following: ESN (Engine Serial Number), CPL, ECM/Control Module, Cummins QuickServe catalog, old piston/crown number, engine application, and dimensional comparison.
