It is fitted to the front end of the crankshaft and serves to absorb and dampen the torsional vibrations of the crankshaft generated by combustion pulses. It normally consists of a heavy metal structure with an internal damping element; it is also marketed as a viscous vibration damper.
Used on C / 6C 8.3 – ISC – QSC – ISL – QSL engines.
Before making a purchase, I always recommend checking the ESN and CPL, or the Cummins OEM catalogue, as the same 8.3 L engine may use different dampers depending on its configuration, power output, year of manufacture and accessory layout.
Seal the component joint to prevent oil or engine fluids from leaking. Cummins primarily uses it for 11-liter M11 engines, but it is also installed in L10, ISM, and QSM engines.
