It receives the force generated by combustion through the pistons and connecting rods and converts the reciprocating motion of the pistons into rotational motion. It is mounted at the bottom of the engine block/crankcase, running longitudinally relative to the engine. Made of forged steel.

Cummins lists the ISL 8.9L and ISC 8.9L / ISC engines among the primary EPA02 applications. QSC / QSC8.3 / QSL / QSL8.9 / QSL9 engines are listed in various aftermarket catalogs under their respective categories (C/ISC/QSC/ISL/QSL), but this does not mean they are automatically applicable to all engines in those categories. They are also associated with ISLe/6L and industrial applications.
